Today, Jamie and Shannon ask us about our favorite movies. (Or our “favourite” movies. You Canadians. š ) At first I thought, “I don’t have any.” Then I read a bunch of other people’s lists and realized I have a ton. So here they are in categories!
Classics: Cary Grant, especially The Philadelphia Story, The Bishop’s Wife, and Charade; Bing Crosby, especially Holiday Inn and White Christmas; Doris Day, especially Pillow Talk
Book Movies: Harry Potter and Jane Austen adaptations
Johnny Depp movies: Finding Neverland, Secret Window, Benny and Joon, Dead Man
Movies about people who go to another country and find themselves: Shirley Valentine, Enchanted April, Midnight in Paris, Sabrina
Movies that are nominally romantic comedies but whose highlight is the supporting cast playing older members of specific ethnic groups: Moonstruck, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Return to Me
Movies that break the mold or are their own mold: Hudsucker Proxy, O Brother Where Art Thou, Best in Show, Grosse Point Blank, Being John Malkovich, Harold and Maude
Movies about the meaning of life: The Legend of Baggar Vance, I Heart Huckabees, Les Miserables, and they tell me I should see The Matrix
Comedies of Errors: The Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest
And two more: Eve’s Christmas and the original Star Wars trilogy
Oh yes! Grosse Point Blank and Being John Malkovich! These are definitely contemporary favorites. Also High Fidelity – love that John Cusack!
The Importance of Being Earnest, so funny. I love your breakdown of categories, there’s certainly hours of fun and relaxation.
Oh yeah, Being John Malkovich and Moonstruck! I constantly forget about movies I really enjoyed.
Oh Dead Man is a good one! The soundtrack is PERFECT! š
I am just beginning to realize how many movies I have missed. Wow, I need to get out more. You have a great list and I love the way you broke everything down into categories.
I loved Dead Man! Saw it about 5 or more times. I actually own it and have been intending to watch it again as it’s been a few years now. I also loved Matrix, but only the first one. Enchanted April was wondeful. Oh, and that now reminds me of Chocolat. That’s a Johnny Depp movie and a real good one, too. And how about Don Juan DeMarco? Gosh, this game tonight has my mind reeling with movies (ha! that was an unintended pun! “Reel”ing). Okay, on that note, looks like it’s time for me to hit the hay. Lol!
Haha, yes…our FavoUrite Movies š We Canadians like those U’s š
I love how you put them together by their common meaning, that’s fascinating.
And YES ! See The Matrix š
Oh! It was as much fun reading your categories as your movie titles. We share many favourites, including some quirky ones like I Heart Huckabees and the Hudsucker Proxy (I haven’t seen that in years!) I was just telling another old skooler that Shannon and I quote Moonstruck all the time. In fact, it’s probably the movie I quote the most! Thanks for sharing your movies. Now, where is my copy of The Bishop’s Wife!
